Dr. Lawren Durocher-Babek –

Specialist in small animal internal medicine

ABOUT-BIO3.jpg

My name is Lawren Durocher-Babek. I am a small animal internal medicine specialist who is also certified in hospice and palliative care. I currently live and work in Hong Kong, but I completed my training in the States. I want to help you improve your pet's life by explaining specialist level information in easily understood terms.

This will help you make better informed decisions regarding your pet's health, which can only better the relationship between our veterinary community and the pet caretaker population as a whole.

I believe strongly in rational, compassionate care. I want to prolong quality of life for our pets for as long as we can in Asia as well as around the world. The better informed everyone is, the better the care we can give our patients.

I have met so many owners who truly care for their pets as their family. I have seen how having dedicated caregivers can help pets live longer than we ever thought possible. I am committed to helping those pets have a better quality of life which is why I pursued my certification in animal hospice and palliative care.

What Is A Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist?

We are the geeks of the veterinary world. We have been described as the puzzle solvers, the diagnosticians of the veterinary world. When we want to be cool, we describe ourselves like House on TV (hopefully without the awful personality). We look at the body as a whole (not just one organ, such as the eye) and come up with a good story to explain everything that is going on. We deal with everything except external medicine – if you can’t see it when you look at your pet, we deal with it. We also serve as the captain of the veterinary team, incorporating many different specialists and veterinarians to come up with a plan for your pet that is best for the whole family.

Dr Lawren at Home

I am very lucky to be married to a wonderful man, Jon.

On our first date, he told me he was allergic to cats. I told him I had three cats, and they were not going anywhere! We survived the cats, as well as his move to Germany for two years during our relationship. We decided if we could survive all that, we can survive anything. We got married and have two children – a 6-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter.

Our children keep us on our toes and constantly laughing. They have thrived during the move to Hong Kong and hopefully will be fluent in Mandarin as they are in English. We love our life in Hong Kong. We have friends from all over the world and we are so lucky to be able to expose our children to different cultures. We recently adopted a French Bulldog named Dimple Dim Sum, and we have 4 fish with various names.
